Your Guide to Chiropractic- by Dr. Nathan Servey, your local Victoria, MN Chiropractor

Updated: Mar 30, 2021

Whether you yourself have been to a chiropractor, you've heard friends, family, or coworkers talk about their chiropractor, or you have no idea what chiropractic is, I've put together a quick guide to help guide you through the basics of chiropractic care.

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic Adjusting Tools

Chiropractic is a natural, safe, non-invasive healing system that promotes nervous system balance and communication between your brain and every cell, tissue, and organ in your body via the spinal cord system. Chiropractors perform specific "adjustments" to the joints in the spine (and other areas too) which helps to improve joint and nerve function. Adjustments can be performed by-hand, with an instrument, or a combination of the two. There are hundreds of different techniques used by chiropractors aimed at improving nervous system function. For more benefits of chiropractic adjustments, see this video.

Why is Chiropractic Sometimes Considered "Alternative"?

Chiropractors do not prescribe medications, inject drugs, or perform surgeries. Instead, they focus on the body's innate ability to heal itself and it's desire to be healthy. Chiropractors attempt to strengthen your body's ability to heal itself by optimizing nervous system communication, encouraging proper diet and nutrition, managing stress, limiting exposure to harmful toxins, and educating patients on a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, this is considered "alternative" in our modern "health"care system rather than the first-step toward health.

Should I (and my family) See a Chiropractor?

Does your family have a long-term plan for it's health and wellness? Is anyone else addressing the health of your spine and nervous system? If not, then "YES"!... you AND your family should consult with a chiropractor.

Chiropractic is a safe, effective, and affordable option for those looking to protect and improve their health naturally and without drugs, injections, or surgery. More and more families are choosing chiropractic and holistic health in order to be PROACTIVE rather than reactive when it comes to their health. In our opinion, everyone can benefit from regular chiropractic care. Everyone has a spine and nervous system, so everyone can benefit from chiropractic adjustments. This includes infants, school-aged children, young adults, and older adults!

Is Going to a Chiropractor Expensive?

Compared to what? Compared to a bottle of aspirin every-other week? Compared to a $100,000 spinal surgery? Compared to chronic pain, disease, and dysfunction? How much is your health worth to you? Luckily, chiropractic care is usually very affordable.

Your health heavily dictates your ability to take care of your family, earn money, pursue your dreams, and live a long and happy life. It's worth investing a little time, effort, and money into. YOU ARE DESERVING! Chiropractic care and preventative lifestyle changes are an absolute bargain considering the cost of doing nothing. In fact, the cost of maintenance chiropractic care over the course of 1-year is usually less than many people's health-insurance deductibles. If you want specific numbers, contact a chiropractor in your area to determine the level of care needed for your specific situation.

How Should I Choose a Chiropractor?

Interview them! Just like with any practitioner, every chiropractor is a little different. They may practice different techniques, focus on different populations, or even specific conditions. Some people see a chiropractor regularly to keep their nervous system balanced while seeing another chiropractor at the same time for a musculoskeletal injury. I recommend asking your family and friends who they see for chiropractic care and if they LOVE them. If you are in the SW-metro of the Twin Cities, I recommend stopping by our office and meeting the staff to get a feel for the clinic.
