Grow Healthy Kids This Summer!

Chronic illness has become too common in our community. As a healthcare provider, the number of children suffering from weak immune systems, chronic ear infections, persistently runny noses, fatigue, headaches, and digestive issues is alarming. In place of vibrant, playful kids there are miserable faces and stressed parents. Something isn’t right.

At Power of Life, we realize that health is not something that you either have or you don’t have. We understand that health is a spectrum that is constantly being moved toward health or toward illness. I refer to anything that moves kids toward illness as “stress”. The 3-major categories of stress are 1) Physical 2) Emotional and 3) Chemical.

Physical stress includes things such as birth trauma (really common!), falls, injuries, and poor posture. Emotional stress has a lot to do with home and school environment and can be easily picked up by kids from others they are around. Chemical stress results from medications (both in utero and at birth), pesticides in food, air and water pollution, certain engineered materials in our homes, and products we use in our home and put on our kid’s skin.

So what can we do about it? The first step we need to take is limit the incoming stress to our kids. There are countless ways we can do this and way too many to address here but this includes things such as limiting screen-time, teaching kids meditation techniques, and changing the types of products we use in our homes. The second step is to increase those things that push our kids toward health. This includes proper diet and nutrition, regular chiropractic care, exercise and play, healthy family and peer relationships.

We believe that healthy children grow into healthy adults. That is one of the reasons why we encourage proper nutrition, exercise, and regular chiropractic care from a young age into adulthood and for life. Summer is the perfect time to get your kids started on the journey back toward health.
